We first established ourselves as a foster home for these children, and have, since then, diversified. We have developed programs with high quality standards that have served as benchmarks for government institutions.
We created an integrated intervention model that uses a human rights-based approach. It is grounded in four programs:
We restore children’s right to live in a family through Family Reunification and Adoptions.
We help this process by conducting experiential workshops, thorough evaluations and by preparing, selecting and supporting mothers, fathers and other relatives.

In Mexico, approximately 64,000 children are separated from their families.
Our priority at Unnido is to resolve their legal situation so we can guarantee their right to live in a family.
We participate in the formulation and implementation of advocacy actions in public, private, and social spheres.
To that effect we developed the Strategy for the Right to Live in a Family and Community for Children and Adolescents without Family Care (ESDEFA).
Our story began when we recognized the need to protect children who lost their parents during the 1985 earthquake. Initially, we established a home shelter for them, and over time we diversified our activities, developing programs with high-quality standards that have gained government recognition.
We developed this strategy to have an inter-institutional impact and be able to better the current children’s rights situation in Mexico.
